Umrah & Hajj by proxy

It is the act of completing the pilgrimage by proxy.

Some people are unable to perform the pilgrimage either because they are very ill or because they have died. A third party may therefore perform this act of worship on their behalf.

The performance of Umrah and/or Hajj on behalf of invalids or deceased persons is carried out through a group drawn from students of legal sciences (Talab al-'Ilm) forming part of Saudi universities.

These are recruited via our local partner. These candidates are recruited through our local partner. Tests and individual interviews are carried out before each recruitment.

During the performance of the Umrah or Hajj, the students performing it are geolocated and their positioning between each rite is checked.

Pilgrimage can take between 10 and 45 days to complete (excluding Ramadan and Hajj)..

To complete a pilgrimage, you must provide the first name of the person concerned as well as that of their father.

Example: You wish to perform Umrah for your deceased father. Your father's first name was Muhammad and your grandfather's first name was Selmân. On arrival at the Miqât, the pilgrim performing Umrah for your father will say the following invocation:

labbayka Allahumma 'Umrah 'an Muhammad ibn Selmân
This means: "I answer your call, O Allah, by performing Umrah for Muhammad son of Selmân".

If you do not know your grandfather's first name, your father's first and last name will suffice inshâ Allah.

Al-Bukhârî reports according to Ibn 'Abbâs that a woman from Juhayna came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said to him:

"My mother had vowed to perform her pilgrimage to Mecca, but she died before fulfilling her vow, may I do it for her? - "Yes, do it for her," replied the Prophet. "You see, if your mother had incurred a debt, would you have repaid it for her? Honour your debts, for debts to God are more worthy of honour".
